Celebrating NAIDOC Week 2024: Blak, Loud and Proud

By Carol Fung

As NAIDOC Week 2024 dawns upon us, we are filled with immense pride and enthusiasm to celebrate this year’s theme: “Blak, Loud, and Proud.” This powerful theme is a celebration of the strength, resilience, and unapologetic pride of Indigenous cultures and communities. It encourages all of us to embrace and honour Indigenous voices, stories, and achievements.

At Envirobank, we are thrilled to celebrate NAIDOC Week by continually showcasing a special collaboration with the talented Indigenous design studio, Coolamon Creative. Based in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) on Arrernte country, Gabby and Sam of Coolamon Creative have infused their profound cultural insights into a vibrant artwork that now adorns our Drop’n’Go pods and our Pinelands high-speed community depot on Larrakia nation (Darwin).

The Story Behind the Art

The artwork created by Coolamon Creative is a visual symphony of Indigenous patterns and contemporary design elements, each symbolising a core aspect of our commitment to recycling and sustainability.

Here’s a closer look at the symbolism within their creation:

  • Waterholes (Concentric Circles): These circles represent our intrinsic connection to land and water, vital elements that sustain life. They remind us of the importance of preserving these natural resources through mindful practices.
  • Lily Pads and Plants: These elements stand for a healthy Country, flourishing with biodiversity. By recycling, we contribute to maintaining the health and balance of our environment.
  • Organic Lines: The flowing lines symbolise the comfort and ease of recycling with Envirobank. Our goal is to make recycling an effortless and accessible habit for all Australians.
  • Hands: These are the hands of the community, working together in unity. They reflect the shared responsibility we all have in caring for our Country and ensuring a sustainable future.

Our Shared Responsibility

This NAIDOC Week, we are reminded of the profound role we play in the circular economy. By recycling more and reducing our reliance on virgin materials, we are not only preserving resources but also honouring the principles of sustainability and respect for the environment. The circular economy encourages innovation and the use of existing materials, ensuring they don’t end up in landfill.

Blak, Loud, and Proud

The theme “Blak, Loud, and Proud” is a call to celebrate and elevate Indigenous voices. It reminds us to stand tall in our cultural identity, to speak out against injustice, and to take pride in our heritage. At Envirobank, we echo this sentiment by committing to environmental stewardship and fostering a culture of sustainability that honours the land and its people.

Join us in celebrating NAIDOC Week

We invite you to visit our Drop’n’Go pods and our Pinelands high-speed community depot on Larrakia nation in Darwin to witness this beautiful artwork in person. Let it inspire you to reflect on your recycling habits and how you can contribute to a healthier, more sustainable planet.

NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate, reflect, and act. Let’s honour Indigenous voices, cherish our cultural heritage, and take concrete steps towards protecting our environment. Together, we can create a future where recycling is second nature, and the beauty of our Country is preserved for generations to come.

Happy NAIDOC Week 2024!
